AI Insider: Would you replace every app on your phone with one AI you just text?

Think about how many apps you open in a day to get simple things done. One to book a flight, another for groceries, a third to cancel a subscription, a fourth to make a reservation. A startup called Instinct is betting you would rather do all of it by sending a single text message, and investors just backed that bet with real money.

What Instinct is

Instinct is a personal AI assistant you reach by text or phone call. There is no app to download and no dashboard to learn. You message it the way you would message a friend, and it handles the task for you. It plans trips, buys groceries, books tickets, cancels subscriptions, and arranges concierge-style bookings with real businesses on your behalf.

Founded by Noah Shinn and based in San Francisco, Instinct launched as an invite-only service in August 2026. One detail stands out about how people are actually using it: more than half of everything it does is travel booking. That makes sense, because planning a trip is exactly the kind of fiddly, multi-step errand people most want to hand off.

Why investors are paying $10 billion

Here is where the story gets eye-popping. Instinct just raised $1 billion in a Series C round that values the company at $10 billion. The round was led by three of the most respected names in venture capital: Sequoia, Benchmark, and Coatue.

What makes that number remarkable is the speed. Just about a month earlier, Instinct had closed a $250 million round at a $2.5 billion valuation. That means the company quadrupled its worth in a matter of weeks. For a startup that has not disclosed any revenue, that kind of jump is extraordinary, and it tells you how convinced top investors are that "an AI that runs your errands" is one of the biggest consumer opportunities in tech right now.

It is also a bet with real risk. A $10 billion valuation with no public revenue is the kind of number that makes the consumer-AI space exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. If people keep texting Instinct for everything, the upside is enormous. If the novelty fades, that valuation looks very fragile.

What it means for you

The interesting part for you is not the funding drama, it is the model. Instinct is a glimpse of a world where you stop managing a dozen apps and start delegating to one assistant that talks to all of them for you. No logins, no menus, no app updates. Just a request in plain language and a result.

For businesses, that shift is worth watching closely. If customers increasingly reach services through an AI agent instead of an app or a website, the way you get discovered and booked changes completely. Your customer may never see your interface again; an agent will interact with you on their behalf. Companies that make it easy for AI agents to do business with them could win, and those that do not could quietly disappear from the conversation.

Whether you personally would trade all your apps for a single AI you just text is a matter of taste. But with $1 billion in fresh funding and a $10 billion valuation, the people who fund the future are making it clear which way they think this is going.
